The VeloMini 3 speed electric bike is a highly portable electric bike that can fold to a compact size and it weighs a mere 36 lbs.

It can be a great solution for the first/last mile commute when combined with mass transit or for getting around a school or large business campus.

It’s compact size also makes it handy for storing in your house / apartment / workplace / school / car / RV / boat, etc.

This is part 1 of the VeloMini III folding electric bike review and it will give you an idea of what this e-bike is all about with a bunch of pictures and info on the specifications.

Alright, let’s get into the details of the VeloMini electric bike!

The VeloMini 3 speed electric bike is a functional and extremely portable electric bike.

A lot of engineering went into making the VeloMini an effective e-bike that can fit many different sized riders and with the ability to fold down to a very compact size.

Anodized aluminum is the frame material of choice for the VeloMini to keep the weight low.  Note the head tube gusset for reinforcement and the folding mechanism that appears to act as a structural part of the frame.

Here is a close up of the frame hinge at the seat tube.

The charging port is on the right side of the frame near the cranks.  In this picture it is covered by a cap.

This is the VeloMini with the charger.  The VeloMini comes with a 24V 9ah lithium ion battery and it takes under 3 hours to charge.

The VeloMini can be operated with pedal assist or throttle. In this picture you can see the cadence sensor near the cranks that senses when you are pedaling and provides the pedal assist.

So where is the battery? It’s housed inside the frame!  The 24V 9ah lithium battery is inside the lower tube of the frame to keep the battery weight centered and low.

In this picture you can get a good look at the main frame folding mechanism. Folding the frame is accomplished with 2 quick release mechanisms; one near the cranks and one along the seat tube support post (silver).

Here is the cockpit control area (handlebars) of the VeloMini.

On the left side of handlebar is the 3 speed Shimano Nexus shifter and the rear brake lever.

The stem has a quick release mechanism that provides for folding the handlebar assembly.

On the right side of the handlebars is the twist grip throttle with on/off button and battery level indicator.  Also on the right side is the bell and small LED light.

The VeloMini features a 180 watt geared front hub motor that powers this folding electric bike up to 12 mph. You can pedal faster than 12 mph if you want but the assist will stop at 12 mph.

Promax V-brakes provide the stopping power on the front of the VeloMini.

A Shimano Nexus 3 speed internally geared rear hub keeps the drivetrain simple and clean.

Here is a look at the aluminum frame near the rear wheel.

Rear braking is accomplished by a Shimano Nexus roller brake.

The VeloMini comes with front and rear fenders.

This is the front LED (flashing or solid) light that helps you be seen by others.  Note that it does not really provide enough light to see the road with.

As part of the folding process, the handlebars fold back via the quick release on the stem.

And the pedals fold down by pushing them in and down.

The VeloMini folds to 18″ tall by loosening the 2 quick release mechanisms on the frame and folding the bike down.

The VeloMini fits comfortably in a car trunk.
